One boat, one desk

This site sells one boat, and the desk answers for that boat only. When Vinca is full, we say so and give you the next date. When she is not the right boat for your trip, we say that as well. She is owner-held and run by her own dedicated charter desk, which is the desk you are writing to.

The desk sits in Labuan Bajo, the town the boat sails from. That matters at 09:30 on the day you sail, when someone has to know which hotel you are in.

We write in the first person plural because that is how a desk works: several people, one answer. The rule we follow is to say what the boat is not before we say what it is.

Built in Bulukumba

Vinca was built in 2020 in Bulukumba, on the south coast of Sulawesi, where phinisi have been built by hand for generations. She was launched the following March. She is a young hull with no refit behind her.

She is 31 m long, with three decks, ironwood and teak in the structure, a Mitsubishi main engine and a Yanmar generator. Her cabins are a mix of three styles, on three decks: Japanese on top, Western in the middle, Balinese below.

The figures come from the supplier's brochure and are operator-stated. On the vessel page we list what is fitted and what is not, including the things she does not have, such as satellite internet, stabilisers and a dive compressor.

The crew, and the ratio

7 crew sail and serve Vinca: a captain, an engineer, a chef, deckhands, and guides who also photograph. They are employed in-house. At a full boat the ratio is 1 crew per 2.6 guests, and it improves with every empty cabin.

The chef cooks in an open galley, so what goes on the long table is in plain view. The guides walk the treks and shoot GoPro, mirrorless and drone footage, which is included on the open trip. On a private charter the guide and the documentation are not in the fare and are added on request.

We list roles, not names. Crew change, and a name on a website that is out of date is worse than none.

The ratio matters for a practical reason. A crew of 7 looking after a handful of guests means the chef can cook to the group and the guide can walk at the pace of the slowest climber. On a full boat of 18 the guide still gets everyone up Padar, but nobody gets a private tour.

Who operates her

The boat is operated and sold by PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, a company registered in Indonesia and based in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. Its business registration number is 1805260128363, and the operator box below carries the address, the email and the WhatsApp lines.

When you pay a deposit, it goes to this company, against an invoice with its name on it. Match the two before you pay.

Prices include VAT of 11 percent. The terms page states the deposit, the refund ladder and the governing law, which is Indonesian law.

If a payment ever looks wrong, stop and write to the desk before you send it again. A duplicate transfer is easier to stop than to recover. The same goes for a request to pay into an account that does not carry the company name, whatever channel it arrives on.

What we will not do

We will not fold park fees into the fare to make it look cheaper. The fees are IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day and IDR 50,000 for Indonesians, and they sit outside the price.

We will not promise mantas, dragons or a flat sea. We will say what the odds are, by month, and let you decide.

We will not tell you the boat is online at sea. Her Wi-Fi is a local hotspot off the crew's mobile signal: it works near Labuan Bajo and in patches between islands, and there is no satellite link.

And we will not pretend that every guest should book us. If you need diving, a stabilised steel hull, a lift between decks or a reply in minutes, we are the wrong boat, and you should hear it before the deposit.

FAQ

Who owns Vinca?

She is owner-held and run by her own dedicated charter desk, which is the desk you are writing to. The registered operator is named in the operator box, with its registration number 1805260128363. Ask the desk if you need ownership papers for corporate booking.

Is the crew employed by the boat or hired for each trip?

The crew are employed in-house. There are 7 aboard: a captain, an engineer, a chef, deckhands, and guides who also photograph. The brochure does not give the exact split between roles, so the vessel page lists the roles without numbers.

When was the boat built, and where?

She was built in 2020 in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, and launched the following March. She has no refit on record, which makes her a young hull. She is 31 m long, made of ironwood and teak, and takes up to 18 guests.

How can I check that the company is real?

The operator box on this site gives the legal name, the business registration number 1805260128363, the address in Labuan Bajo and the email sales@vincacruisekomodo.com. Check the registration number through Indonesia's online business licensing system, and match the name to the account on your invoice.
